It has been two years since I decided to remove myself from the political scene in Mount Rainier, MD, Prince George's County, and the State of Maryland. Holding the lofty position of Mayor was such a great honor, but as the years flew by, I realized that it was time to do something else -- get a life.! I did, and still continue to provide resources to the residents through The Front Porch Ministries (TFPM). Real people pass through The Front Porch Ministries weekly. LIFE is good.

A MINISTRY WALKING THE WALK!

Every Monday and Wednesday beginning next week, June 23 and 25, we will have free meals at our church at noon for anyone up to age 18. They are bagged lunches, provided by the county, so that our youth can be fed when they are not able to get their school meals during the summer.

If you are interested in helping, please arrive by 11:30AM so that I can instruct you as best I can on the procedure for handing out the food (we are supposed to be trained at some point by the county, but I am not sure what is happening with that at this point).

Also, it was suggested by the county that we have other activities available. I have some children's books and board games/card games here; we could also take the kids outside to the playground across the street. If you are coming, do you have any thing or idea that you could bring with you for an activity or game?

If you are a parent/guardian or know of any youth that would be interested in coming, please try to invite anyone you can. First come, first serve at noon for handing out the food that we receive! I could also give out more food that we have received for our food pantry.

Mayor Malinda Miles

As a long-time resident of Mount Rainier and a homeowner, it is important to me that municipal government be inclusive of all of its residents. It is equally important that information be communicated through all possible channel so that residents can get involved. It is also important for residents to volunteer and serve on committees, commissions, boards and task forces. I truly believe that municipal government is the government closes to the people, and as such should be easily accessible. This BLOG is another effort to reach out to the residents of Mount Rainier.
