At 9:00am this morning, June 7, 2014, a group of 26 seniors will join me for a cruise down the Potomac. They will network with each other, listen to gospel music, have lunch, and share an experience together sponsored by the "Whatcha Doin Seniors Club of Mount Rainier, Maryland. The co-sponsor of this activity is the State of Maryland through the Department of Aging under the direction of the Secretary of Aging, Ms. Gloria Lawlah.
The Secretary of Aging s working hard to make sure that seniors remain active and engaged in their community. Future activities of the Club include a personal safety training at the City of Mount Rainier Police Department, a tour and luncheon of the Red Dirt Studio and Washington School of Glass with lunch in the Mount Rainier Skate park, and a Senior Gala at the Mount Rainier Potts House honoring seniors.
If you are a senior, and you want to be a part of this group, Whatcha Doin Seniors Club of Mount Rainier, Maryland, PLEASE call Janis Lomax at 301-985-6585. We would love to include you. I am also sure that you will enjoy the fun of mingling with other seniors. The Club is open to all Mount Rainier seniors, 62 and over. Got ideas for activities that we can do in Mount Rainier with seniors? Shoot me an email, mayor miles@gmail.com.
It has been two years since I decided to remove myself from the political scene in Mount Rainier, MD, Prince George's County, and the State of Maryland. Holding the lofty position of Mayor was such a great honor, but as the years flew by, I realized that it was time to do something else -- get a life.! I did, and still continue to provide resources to the residents through The Front Porch Ministries (TFPM). Real people pass through The Front Porch Ministries weekly. LIFE is good.

Rolling Out for the FIRST TIME the "Whatca Doin Seniors Club of Mount Rainier Maryland
As a long-time resident of Mount Rainier and a homeowner, it is important to me that municipal government be inclusive of all of its residents.
It is equally important that information be communicated through all possible channel so that residents can get involved.
It is also important for residents to volunteer and serve on committees, commissions, boards and task forces.
I truly believe that municipal government is the government closes to the people, and as such should be easily accessible.
This BLOG is another effort to reach out to the residents of Mount Rainier.
