From the Desk of Former Mayor Malinda Miles

It has been two years since I decided to remove myself from the political scene in Mount Rainier, MD, Prince George's County, and the State of Maryland. Holding the lofty position of Mayor was such a great honor, but as the years flew by, I realized that it was time to do something else -- get a life.! I did, and still continue to provide resources to the residents through The Front Porch Ministries (TFPM). Real people pass through The Front Porch Ministries weekly. LIFE is good.

The 2015 Southside Music & Skateboarding Competition

The 2015 SOUTHSIDE MUSIC & SKATEBOARDING SERIES
Saturday, JULY 18 starting at NOON in the Mt. Rainier Skate Park in Mt. Rainier, MD (corner of Otis & Wells)

Live music starts at noon with Lee Blackwood Graham

Skateboarding competition: FREE to enter for all ages, registration noon-12:45 pm (be there early!), free skate all morning up until competition starts at 1 pm, CASH prizes in 4 competition categories, GUEST JUDGES The DC Wheels

DJ sets throughout, featuring Rob One and Honest Lee, so be ready for some Jungle, Hip Hop, Funk, and more.

Jimmy Pelletier returns to MC the event, and The DC Wheels will be joining him as judges! This comp is also a Bonus Stop on the UNITEDRSC competition series.

Last year was a blast and big success. We drew skaters from around the area, as well as many local onlookers. We have made a short video honoring the origins of the park's creation as well as last year's competition--Find it on our Southside Music & Skateboarding Series facebook page

As a long-time resident of Mount Rainier and a homeowner, it is important to me that municipal government be inclusive of all of its residents. It is equally important that information be communicated through all possible channel so that residents can get involved. It is also important for residents to volunteer and serve on committees, commissions, boards and task forces. I truly believe that municipal government is the government closes to the people, and as such should be easily accessible. This BLOG is another effort to reach out to the residents of Mount Rainier.
