Maryland Municipal League (MML) Designates...

Mount Rainier as a Banner City
The Banner City designation is awarded to municipalities whose municipal officials participate at all levels of MML, i.e., attend chapter meetings, serve on MML committees, participate in MML's summer convention and fall conference, promotes MML's "If I Were Mayor Contest," visits local schools during municipal government month in November as well as carry out other activities determined by MML’s Communications Committee.

Earning this designation is quite an accomplishment by our municipality.  Working together, Mount Rainier’s elected officials and staff actively worked together to achieve the goals set forth for this designation.  “Participation in MML gives cities and town leaders an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and learn how to better do their jobs “   said Mount Rainier’s  Mayor Malinda Miles

Mount Rainier was one of the first municipalities to receive this designation when the program was introduced, and has won it all but one year.  Mount Rainier would have a perfect record as a Banner City had we gotten in our paper work one year.  Mayor, Council and staff have already started working on this year’s Banner City designation with attendance at the June 2013 MML Convention in Ocean City.

Our next hurdle will be MML’s Fall Conference to be held in Solomon Maryland.

MML’s mission is to “Strengthen and support municipal government through advocacy and the development of effective leadership.”
