It has been two years since I decided to remove myself from the political scene in Mount Rainier, MD, Prince George's County, and the State of Maryland. Holding the lofty position of Mayor was such a great honor, but as the years flew by, I realized that it was time to do something else -- get a life.! I did, and still continue to provide resources to the residents through The Front Porch Ministries (TFPM). Real people pass through The Front Porch Ministries weekly. LIFE is good.

Remove "call up" From Zoning Rewrite

Due diligence is required by the RESIDENTS OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY.

I have learned that the County in its rewriting process has sneaked in a practice that was deemed inappropriate following the Jack Johnson administration. It was called "CALL UP." Thank you Tracy Loh.

This practice allowed the County Council sitting as the District Council, could arbitrarily pull any Planning Board decision and hold it indefinitely for review or even strike it down. This practice was considered illegal. NOW, in this new zoning rewrite "call up" has been added back in a "County Council member.

PROTEST this. Demand that your County Council members remove that from the new document. It was bad back then and it is BAD NOW.

They are ALL CAMPAIGNING FOR RE-ELECTION. Now is the time to MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD. Don't get duped AGAIN. Comment on the Zoning Rewrite. It is your RIGHT TO DO SO.

As a long-time resident of Mount Rainier and a homeowner, it is important to me that municipal government be inclusive of all of its residents. It is equally important that information be communicated through all possible channel so that residents can get involved. It is also important for residents to volunteer and serve on committees, commissions, boards and task forces. I truly believe that municipal government is the government closes to the people, and as such should be easily accessible. This BLOG is another effort to reach out to the residents of Mount Rainier.

1. No Recycling today because of Veterans Day tomorrow. City offices are closed. Police officers are on duty. Please call 301-985-6565 if you have a police emergency and need an officer to respond.

2. Veterans Day Champagne Brunch with WAFFLES Saturday, November 11, 2017, 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. City of Mount Rainier Police Department , 3249 Rhode Island Ave, Mt Rainier, MD 20712

3. There will be an Open House for the newly renovated Singer Building (Singer's Flats) on Thursday, November 16, 2017 for those interested in seeing what has been done at that location. (NOTE: Not fully ready for leasing waiting on gas, electric and water hookups, but ready for renters to sign up --
first come first serve) This project is being done by The Menkiti Group.

4. Collection for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets is in full swing. Drop off can goods and non-perishable at the City of Mount Rainier police Department , 3249 Rhode Island Ave, Mt A few Rainier, MD 20712.

5. 23rd Mount Rainier Craft Fair is December 2, 2017 hosted at Joe's Movement Emporium,3309 Bunker Hill Rd, Mt Rainier, MD 20712 starting at 10:00 a.m.
