From the Desk of Former Mayor Malinda Miles

It has been two years since I decided to remove myself from the political scene in Mount Rainier, MD, Prince George's County, and the State of Maryland. Holding the lofty position of Mayor was such a great honor, but as the years flew by, I realized that it was time to do something else -- get a life.! I did, and still continue to provide resources to the residents through The Front Porch Ministries (TFPM). Real people pass through The Front Porch Ministries weekly. LIFE is good.

A recap of the past few months in 2024

It has been a minute since I posted here, and a lot has happened in between. This is a short recap.

Since I posted here, a new president has come into power.

My brother's oldest son has died and cremated.

My grandson Ethan has become a legal driver with a valid license.

My granddaughter, Miss Malinda, has gotten a 4.3 GPA in college and moving toward graduation.

Khiarah Miles Williams has gotten her white coat and performed her first clinical.

Namesake, Genevia also got her white coat and moved on to clinical and her graduate degree in pharmacology.

My son, Lee, has visited and spent almost two hours with me on New Year's Day with his lovely wife, Tonya Miles.

Shalinda White came to Maryland to attend Charles Miles' wedding to Skyy Williams.

Charles and Skyy Miles were married on December 13, 2024, at Jubilee United Church of Christ.

Ashika Miles Dickerson, the baby of the Malinda Miles crew, turned forty-eight (48) on December 13, 2024.

If the doctors are correct, Jaylin Miles is carrying a baby boy that will arrive sometime in May.

My seventy-eighth (78) birthday was celebrated in Florida with my granddaughter, Tatiyana Miles, who paid for my little excursion and traveled with me on the train to Philadelphia, PA, for Khiarah's white coat ceremony.

I have had a few ups and downs, but through it all, I have had a constant and wonderful companion, God's son Jesu, who has carried me more frequently than I have been able to carry myself. I thank God for His love and blessings around and throughout my life.

As a long-time resident of Mount Rainier and a homeowner, it is important to me that municipal government be inclusive of all of its residents. It is equally important that information be communicated through all possible channel so that residents can get involved. It is also important for residents to volunteer and serve on committees, commissions, boards and task forces. I truly believe that municipal government is the government closes to the people, and as such should be easily accessible. This BLOG is another effort to reach out to the residents of Mount Rainier.
