The City of Mount Rainier is seeking qualified residents
to serve on its Election Board. There is
compensation for your service on ELECTION DAY!
Qualifications
are:
A. Is a citizen of the United States;
B. Is at least eighteen (18) years of age;
C. Is registered to vote in accordance with the
provisions of this Charter; and
D. Has resided in the corporate limits of the city for at
least thirty (30) days immediately preceding the next City election.
ARTICLE
V Registration, Nomination, and Election Procedures
Section 501. Board of Elections.
A.
There shall be a Board of Elections
consisting of a Supervisor of Elections
and four (4) members who shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council on or before the first Monday in March of
every odd numbered year. The terms of the members of the Board of Elections
shall begin on the first Monday in March of the year in which they are
appointed and run for two years. Vacancies on the Board shall be filled by the
Mayor and Council for the remainder of the unexpired term. Compensation of the Board of Elections shall be determined by the
Mayor and Council.
B.
Members of the Board of Elections shall be qualified to vote in City elections
pursuant to Section
502
of this Article and shall not hold or be a candidate for any elective office
during their term on the Board.
C.
The Board of Elections shall be responsible
for the registration of voters, nominations, and supervision of all City
elections in accordance with the provisions of this Charter, City ordinances
and State and Federal law.
D.
Any member of the Board of Elections may be
removed by the Mayor and Council for inefficiency, malfeasance, misfeasance,
nonfeasance, misconduct in office, or insubordination. Before removal, the
member of the Board to be removed shall be given a written copy of the charges
and shall have a public hearing before the Mayor and Council if requested
within ten days after receiving the written copy of the charges.
E.
Members of the Board of Elections may be
reappointed by the Mayor and Council.
F.
Qualifications of applicants to the Board of
Elections may be reviewed by the City’s Ethics Commission.

Selected individuals will be appointed to serve prior to
the first Monday in March (March 3, 2015) at a special meeting of the Mayor and
Council.
The Mayor and Council is seeking up to nine residents to
appoint to the Board of Elections. Five
will be appointed to the Board of Elections, and the remaining four will be
appointed as Alternate members of the Board of Elections. Training will be provided to the nine
appointees.
